Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) is currently engaging in various initiatives to support the promotion of dementia policies in local governments. As part of these efforts, we held an “Inclusive Community Dialogue” in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture, where local residents, including people living with dementia, gathered to discuss the future of an inclusive society.
The Basic Act on Dementia to Promote an Inclusive Society (Basic Act on Dementia), which came into effect in January 2024, calls for people living with dementia and their families to be actively involved in community development and policy formation. Moving forward, local governments are expected to formulate and promote dementia policies that reflect and encourage the voices of diverse community residents, including people living with dementia.
This “Inclusive Community Dialogue” aimed to review past initiatives and their outcomes related to dementia in Omuta City, while envisioning the future of a society in which individuals with lived experience of dementia and residents can live happily and achieve their full potential. Through group work and graphic recording sessions, participants shared their experiences and thoughts about dementia, engaging in dynamic dialogue.
